It is a sad bellwether of the direction of the game. "Serious competition" is becoming an endangered species in the world of golf.

The gorgeous irony is that the par 3 course is the only part of Augusta National that the autocratic Clifford Roberts built and then, of course, killed himself on.

...the Par 3 contest cannot be anymore silly and irrelevant as LIV Golf. Heck, it certainly gets higher TV ratings!

Are you opining on the Masters or the Par three event….if the latter I agree, but I thought you your comment was on the Masters………Mr. Paine was Director at the time it “opened up”….damn shame but he was trying to work around no women members at that time.

Yes, he did. Which makes him one of the "new golfers" who are bringing ruin to traditional (real) golf. So, Whiz Boy, don't bother to reply, as I don't give a rip what you think. Your crowd has done enough damage to the game. Just go buy yourself another six-pack, jump in your cart, and go bouncing down the fairway oblivious to the history of the game.
